Defense Attorney In Ghost Ship Trial Lashes Out At Prosecutors For Line Of Questioning

The defense attorney for Derick Almenda accused in a deadly music party fire is lashing out at Alameda County prosecutors for their line of questioning.

Attorney Tony Serra told reporters yesterday it was wrong for prosecutors to mention a condom Almena’s son discovered at the Ghost Ship warehouse in 2015. He called the line of questioning character assassination even though a judge allowed it. Almena is charged with involuntary manslaughter and admitted during testimony he did not get permits to install stairs and a side door. He also said he didn’t know he had to get permits for parties he’d throw from time to time. Three dozen people were killed in the 2016 fire.
