More funding is coming to help bring special education teachers to California. Governor Gavin Newsom says his newly signed budget includes funding for special education.
Newsom signed Assembly Bill 988, written by Assemblyman Marc Berman of Palo Alto. The bill will make it easier for teachers with out-of-state credentials to teach in California. Berman argued there’s a lack of special ed teachers due to the hurdles out-of-state teachers have to go through to become re-certified. The new law revises legislation allowing people with special ed credentials to prove their expertise over a two-year process without having to take additional course work.
