Navy Officer Remembers Recovering Apollo 11 Astronauts After Splashdown

This week’s 50th anniversary of the historic Apollo 11 moon-landing mission holds special significance for a former Northern California Navy Officer. Rolf Sabye was among those aboard the ship sent to recover the astronauts after splashdown:

 

As a Second Class Petty Officer on the USS Hornet, Saybe then helped recover the space capsule that took Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins to the moon and back.
