Governor Newsom Hopes Major Changes Improve DMV Efficiency

Governor Gavin Newsom is hoping major changes to the Department of Motor Vehicles will help its efficiency. The governor announced the reforms yesterday, saying the state is giving the DMV almost $250 million in the latest budget.

Newsom says the DMV will be adding more kiosks in various locations across the state and is launching a pilot program bringing credit cards to field offices. Newsom also appointed Steven Gordon as the new director of the department with Kathleen Webb as chief deputy director. All DMV offices will be closed until 1pm today so employees can undergo REAL ID training.
