Tom Loughlin's sculpture "Signal" built of girders from the old eastern span of the Bay Bridge.
The former eastern span of the Bay Bridge lives on in the form of artwork. “Signal” is the name of an art installation, which is a 22-ton ring made from sections of the bridge’s cantilever section. The sculpture was unveiled Thursday on Treasure Island and an official public opening is being held this weekend. Signal isn’t the only sculpture made from Bay Bridge steel. When the old span was demolished, pieces of it were passed on to artists across the state to fulfill the public’s wish that the steel be used to benefit the community.
