Governor Newsom Signs Executive Order To Leverage Billions From State’s Gas Tax

Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom has signed an executive order leveraging the more than $5 billion dollars a year from the state’s gas tax to address environmental concerns. Republican Assemblyman Jim Patterson is calling it a “bait and switch.”

In addition, a CalTrans draft report for 2020 puts more than $60 million in uncommitted funds to a reserve account for priority rail projects and other priorities aligned with the executive order. Governor Newsom’s office didn’t immediately respond to requests for comment.
