Rohnert Park City Council To Appeal SMART Train Speeds Within City Limits

A SMART Intersection in Rohnert Park that has seen five people hit and killed there in just over a year is being targeted by the city. City Council on Tuesday will formally appeal that SMART slow it’s trains down when approaching the crossing at Golf Course Drive near Commerce Drive. The Press Democrat reports that in a draft letter, the council believes the proposal would save lives by increasing safety and deterring those who are considering suicide. The crossing has already seen the installation of a z-gate for pedestrians to prevent accidental deaths.
