Three Santa Rosa residents are suing Sonoma County over the 2017 Tubbs Fire. The class action claims county emergency services officials should have known where the wildfire would go based on the wind direction and on the history of fires in the area. The Fountaingrove neighbors also claim emergency officials were negligent in failing to use available technology to give residents more advance warning. It’s the first lawsuit to claim the county should be held liable for negligence. But legal experts say the suit may not get far because state law provides broad legal protections for public entities.
