Petaluma Based Vegan Company Suing California

A vegan company in Petaluma is suing the state after being told to stop using certain words. State officials have told Miyoko’s Creamery to stop using the word “butter” on its product labels and take down images of cows on its website. The state claims the company’s plant-based dairy alternative does not meet the federal definition as a food exclusively made from milk or cream.
