Legislation Protecting Workers Affected By Coronavirus Introduced

As California deals with a still-growing threat of coronavirus, a legislative effort to keep affected workers from losing their jobs is being introduced at the state capitol. Assemblywoman Lorena Gonzalez has authored a bill that would make it illegal to fire a quarantined or isolated employee during a public health crisis.

AB 3123 would also allow employees to use their earned sick leave if public officials close their workplace because of a public health emergency, or if the employee is caring for a child whose school or provider is closed because of a public health emergency. Gonzalez is hoping to fast-track the legislation.
