Governor Newsom Deploys 500 National Guard Troops

California Governor Gavin Newsom is deploying the National Guard to help distribute food and medicine during the coronavirus crisis. He’s activated 500 troops for what he calls purely humanitarian efforts and not to enforce the stay-at-home order he issued yesterday. He says residents shouldn’t be alarmed if they see military vehicles, assuring residents the state is not under martial law. Newsom says the troops are needed to make up for a shrinking number of volunteers that usually help in food banks and other community services.
