California voters will decide in November whether to increase property taxes on commercial and industrial land. If approved, the ballot measure would raise up to $12 billion annually for public schools and government buildings across the state. Supporters say the money will give local governments new funds to spend on K through 12 education, homelessness and other community needs. Opponents and groups representing restaurants and retailers argue raising taxes will hurt businesses.
