Sonoma County has added 21 more cases overnight, bringing the total amount of coronavirus cases to 701. There are currently 327 active cases, 370 recoveries and 4 total deaths. 62% of cases are coming from central county, which includes Santa Rosa, Rohnert Park and Cotati.
New data is showing that 75% of the confirmed cases in Sonoma County are from the Latino community, and that number is even higher when looking at those under 18; 95% of young people who have contracted the virus are Latino. That ratio is almost 3 times higher than the amount currently living in the county, and its also the third highest COVID infection rate in a Latino population among all California counties. Public Health Officer Dr. Sundari Mase says based on these stats the Latino population is now 9 times more likely to catch the coronavirus than other local ethnic groups. She would also add that some of the heightened numbers might be the result of a recent focus on testing the Latino community.
