Sonoma County might buy a hotel to house homeless people considered at-risk for the coronavirus. The Board of Supervisors is scheduled to meet in closed session today to discuss buying the 42-room Hotel Azure at College and Mendocino avenues in Santa Rosa. The potential cost hasn’t been revealed. The hotel would be used to replace the dorm rooms it had been using at Sonoma State University, which wants to use those for students again next month. Homeless people with pre-existing health conditions would be moved to the hotel. The county is also trying to secure hotel rooms for about a dozen homeless people who have been quarantined at SSU after testing positive for the coronavirus.
