Stanford University Cuts 11 Sports Programs

Sports programs at Stanford University are getting cut amid the school’s budget deficit. Officials made the move yesterday to cut 11 out of 36 varsity sports programs after the 2020-21 academic year, citing a growing budget gap. The sports include men’s and women’s fencing, field hockey, lightweight rowing, co-ed and women’s sailing, squash, men’s rowing, men’s volleyball, and wrestling. Officials say the budget shortfall is projected to surpass $12 million, and it’s expected to rise in the coming years.
