While the county is looking for a permanent director of their new Office of Equity, they have assigned an interim. Chief Deputy County Counsel Alegria De La Cruz has been appointed to that position by the board of supervisors until a nationwide search for a new director can be done. The office was created last week by supervisors to help solve racial disparities in the county and local government. De la Cruz’s first take will be addressing the disparity in which the LatinX population has been affected by COVID-19. As of July15th, 68 percent of COVID-19 cases in the county have come from the LatinX community despite them making up about 27% of the population.
