The pastor of a Berkeley church wants answers due to a suspicious fire that was set a few hours after he hung a Black Lives Matter banner there on Tuesday. Berkeley police are investigating the incident that involved burning trash cans and a scorched building at The Way Christian Center. Reverend Mike McBride wants the fire to be investigated as a hate crime. Preliminary investigation found remnants of an accelerant, but police have little to go on other than the suspect is possibly male and was wearing a tan reflective poncho or jacket. Berkeley Mayor Jesse Arreguin also believes the incident should be prosecuted as a hate crime, but police say there is not enough information or evidence so far for that to happen.
