Five San Francisco-Marin Food Bank trucks are damaged after being targeted by vandals in San Rafael last weekend. Food bank officials say the trucks were damaged Sunday morning when the culprits filled the gas tanks with an acid-like liquid. The timing is particularly bad as the non-profit has been extra busy due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Officials say the need for the food pantry has increased by 20 to 30% since the pandemic began. The crime briefly interrupted service by the food bank, but the food pantries are all operating at normal capacity. San Rafael police are reviewing surveillance video of the crime that occurred at about 6 a.m. last Sunday. Now the food bank is trying to figure out what to do with the damaged trucks, as it is unknown how much it will cost to fix or replace them.
