This weekend saw the beginning of a statewide overnight curfew for counties in the purple tier of the COVID-19 response plan, which includes Sonoma County. It takes place every night between 10 PM to 5 AM banning all non-essential work, movement and gatherings. However, Press Democrat reports that the new orders will unlikely change the behaviors of the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office and the Santa Rosa Police department. Sheriff Mark Essick has said they will use discretion during those hours and Santa Rosa Police Chief Ray Navarro said they won’t use curfew as probable cause to stop anybody. Navarro added he would continue focus on education as a way to encourage compliance.
