Covered California Reports 14% Increase In Health Insurance Coverage

More than 1.5 million people have purchased health insurance through Covered California. Roughly 200,000 more people bought health insurance this year compared to the same time period last year. That’s a 14% increase. State officials say the number reflects California’s high unemployment rate as millions have lost their jobs and employer-sponsored health coverage due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The deadline to purchase coverage is January 31.
