Sonoma County Renters Amassing Millions Of Dollars Of Debt During Pandemic

$36.5 million in debt have been amassed by Sonoma County renters during the COVID-19 pandemic. That’s according to a new report from Bay Area Equity Atlas and Housing NOW! California as of December 2020. 10,545 renters were counted as part of the report with each one owing on average $3,460. Households with an income below $50,000 account for 60% of the total debt. For California as a whole, 1.1 million renters are behind on an estimated $3.7 billion as of December.
