Some residents in Northwest Santa Rosa were startled by the sounds of fighter jets Wednesday afternoon. A small group of F-18 fighter jets made an unexpected stop at the Charles M. Schultz Sonoma County Airport before taking off again a short while later. Sonoma County Airport Manager Jon Stout tells the Press Democrat that they didn’t receive any information on their mission and speculated that they were heading to a naval base farther south. Stout also says that they see a lot more military helicopters than aircraft and that these stopovers occur three to four times a year.
