A local chapter of the NAACP is objecting to the new Sonoma County Advisory Redistricting Commission’s membership selection process.

The Santa Rosa-Sonoma County NAACP voiced their objection in a letter posted last week saying that some racial demographics are not represented in this commission. As a result, the chapter wants the board to openly discuss at today’s meeting who should fill the last seat on the 15 member commission. Currently, the board is set to fill the seat with Mike Martini, a white former Santa Rosa City councilman and mayor. As it stands, the commission has 6 who identify as LatinX, 5 as white, one as black, and two declining to state their race.
