A 68-year-old man in a wheelchair suffered serious injuries after being hit by a truck in Southwest Santa Rosa.
The victim, Juventino Abarca, was in the crosswalk heading east on Dutton Avenue at Sebastopol Road early Tuesday morning. A GMC truck driven by 29-year-old Edwin Valle-Morales turned left onto Dutton while the light was flashing yellow, striking Abarca and dragging him for 60 feet until a witness waved him down. Abarca was taken to a local hospital with significant injuries. Meanwhile, Valle-Morales said he didn’t see Abarca until after the witness made him aware. The driver was uninjured and there were no signs that he was impaired.
