A Santa Rosa man convicted of attempted murder of four rival gang members is being denied parole. 51-year-old Mario Gaburel was denied the request by the California Board of Prison Terms. The ruling from the board noted Gaburel’s continued refusal to accept responsibility for his conduct and also his repeated violent behavior while incarcerated, most notably a 2016 incident for which Gaburel was convicted of the attempted murder of another inmate. Gaburel’s conviction stems from a February 1997 shooting where he opened fired on a vehicle with four rival gang members. After conviction, the court sentenced him to life in prison with the possibility of parole.
