Today is the recall election that will decide if Gavin Newsom keeps his job as California’s governor. Newsom says the push to unseat him is rooted in xenophobia and racism, but he embraces California’s diversity. President Biden campaigned with Newsom in Long Beach last night. Biden called Republican front runner Larry Elder “the clone” of former President Trump. Newsom also called the election a chance to defeat “Trumpism.”

California Republican candidate for governor Larry Elder is on the offensive ahead of today’s recall election against Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom. Elder went on “Tucker Carlson Tonight” on Fox to assail Newsom’s record on crime, COVID, homelessness and the cost of living. He argued that while Newsom has the support of big-name Democratic politicians like President Biden and former President Obama, they haven’t actually defended his policies. He also said Newsom’s COVID restrictions had put many small businesses out of business, including those owned by minorities. Elder is leading the pack of Republican challengers hoping to take Newsom’s job.

Meanwhile, some Republicans are already arguing the election will be stolen. Larry Elder sent supporters to a website to report fraud. That site that said fraud had been detected in the election that resulted in a Newsom victory, despite the fact the election hasn’t happened yet. Newsom is currently leading in the polls.
