A type of permit used for small scale cannabis farmers may be temporarily banned. Today, the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors will consider a 45-day moratorium on issuing multi-tenant permits from the county’s agriculture department. Supporters of the ban say these permits have been used by growers to get around requirements for grows over 10,000 square feet by acquiring permits for adjacent smaller plots in which regulations are lesser. It comes as local growers are criticizing the permitting process and high fees while those who oppose cannabis argue the county isn’t doing enough. If approved, the moratorium would end October 26th when supervisors would be presented policy changes or extend the moratorium.
