A local tribe has filed an application to grow cannabis. The Dry Creek Rancheria Band of Pomo Indians filed the application to plant nearly 1,000 cannabis plants outdoors on a 29-acre portion of the tribe’s 277 acres between Highway 101 and the Petaluma River. While the tribe owns the land, it is not sovereign land which means it is still subject to oversight from the county. It comes after Dry Creek agreed earlier this year not to build a casino on the property prior to December 31, 2032. That agreement also waived $750,000 annual payments from the tribe to the county last year and this year.
