A bidding process is being opened for the running of Sam Jones Hall shelter in Santa Rosa. The city council made the move Tuesday to open the bidding process up after 17 years of the shelter being run by Catholic Charities. Their move wasn’t about Catholic Charities and their performance but the increased spending on homelessness amid a surge of state and federal funding. The city of Santa Rosa has spent over $10 million on homelessness since the beginning of the pandemic. Catholic Charities intends to apply for the bid but it’s unclear who would compete against them. The Press Democrat reports that St. Vincent de Paul and Sonoma Applied Village Services will not be putting in bids.
