The CHP is ramping up its Maximum Enforcement Period ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday weekend. Officials say the enforcement begins at 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, and will continue through midnight on Sunday. CHP officers will be on the lookout for any unsafe or distracted driving, speeding, or seat belt violations. During last year’s Thanksgiving enforcement period, the CHP arrested 868 people for driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol. They say 33 people were killed on state highways during that time frame. Fourteen of the victims were not wearing a seat belt.
