Sonoma County is helping a local artist find her lost painting that may possibly still be somewhere within the Chanate property. Seven years ago, Kathleen Thompson of Sebastopol lent one of her paintings to a friend working at the old Norton Behavioral Health Center on Chanate Road. Her friend reportedly displayed the painting in the main activity room for a while but it might have been moved since then to storage. What makes the search harder is that the building has been declared a hazard due to asbestos. The county administrator is circulating a photo of the 30-feet-by 40-feet painting among behavioral health team members to see if they can recall its whereabouts.
