An 8th grader from Sonoma is getting national attention for her essay on patriotism. Earlier this month, Charlotte Bevan read her essay entitled “Flying Our Flag High” at Fox News’ Patriot Awards, and then she was awarded the Youth Patriot Award. She had written the essay last year as a submission in the Veterans of Foreign War’s annual Patriot’s Pen Essay Contest under the theme “What is Patriotism to Me?” Bevan attends school at St. Francis Solano School, a private Catholic elementary school in the Sonoma Valley Unified school district.
