Scott Peterson listens to Stanislaus County Deputy District attorney Dave Harris speak during a hearing at the San Mateo County Superior Court in Redwood City, Calif., Dec. 8, 2021. Nearly 17 years after being sentenced to die, Peterson was resentenced to life without parole Wednesday during an emotional hearing in which family members of his slain pregnant wife, Laci, called him out for the killing in 2002 and his apparent lack of remorse. Scott Peterson’s lawyer is claiming that new evidence will exonerate his client. Peterson was sentenced to life in prison without parole Wednesday for the 2002 killings of his wife and unborn child. Peterson’s defenders have theorized that Laci Peterson was the victim of burglars she caught in the act across the street from the couple’s Modesto home. Peterson’s attorney is confident that new evidence can prove the burglary occurred on the day Laci disappeared and solidify his client’s innocence.
