The Russian River Brewery in Santa Rosa, Calif., has always been a gathering place for Santa Rosa residents and those who live nearby, as it is Friday, Oct. 13, 2017. Maker of the popular Pliny the Elder and Pliny the Younger beers, the brewery closed for just one day after wildfires ripped through the city’s northern edge, part of a series of wind-whipped blazes north of San Francisco that quickly became the deadliest in state history. The surge in COVID is delaying the release of Pliny the Younger ale. The Russian River Brewing Company announced yesterday it is postponing the launch of the popular triple-IPA from February 4th to March 25th. The annual two-week event draws more than 20-thousand fans from all over the world in a typical year, but the Sonoma County Health Department has banned large gatherings until at least February 11th. The last regular Pliny release party was in February of 2020, just before COVID lockdowns began. Last year’s in-person release was canceled entirely except for online ordering.
