The fate of the Sonoma Developmental Center may be delayed even further. With the 930-acre property’s future up for debate on January 25th, the Sonoma Land Trust is urging the Board of Supervisors to delay choosing a redevelopment plan for up to two years in order to study the wildlife corridor that runs through the site. They argue that disruptions in recent years such as wildfires and the pandemic haven’t given them enough time to come up with an alternative. Supervisor Susan Gorin, whose district includes the Sonoma Developmental Center, tells the Press Democrat that there will be plenty of time for an environmental impact report in the coming months and that an extension is not needed. Several plans have been presented to the county with mixes of affordable housing and open space.
