Sonoma County Public Health Officer Doctor Sundari Mase is offering more apologies after news of her DUI arrest broke earlier this month. Mase was arrested for DUI in Oakland in December of 2020, and pleaded no contest to a charge of reckless driving with alcohol involved last July. On Friday, Sonoma County Supervisor Lynda Hopkins was to interview with the Press Democrat about Mase, when the health officer herself joined the call. Mase apologized for not being “completely clear and honest,” and promised it wouldn’t happen again. Earlier in the week, Hopkins publicly questioned whether Mase could still be trusted, after finding out she had also been arrested for DUI in San Diego in 2014, but chose not to mention it to county officials, at first only saying that incident just involved distracted driving.
