The son of a Mendocino County sheriff’s lieutenant has been charged with possession of child pornography. 22-year-old Bailey Comer of Fort Bragg was booked and released over this past weekend after turning himself in. The crime was initially reported in the fall of 2019 when it was referred to the Mendocino County Sheriff’s office by the state’s Internet Crimes Against Children agency. They then referred the investigation to the Sacramento Valley Hi-Tech Crimes Task Force after it allegedly involved a computer at the address of lieutenant J.D. Comer with the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office. Meanwhile, Trent James, a former Mendocino County sheriff’s deputy, has accused the sheriff’s office of attempting to bury the case and not putting J.D. Comer on administrative leave during the investigation. Sheriff Matt Kendall denies any preferential treatment in the case.
