A draft report for the historic Sonoma Developmental Center near Glen Ellen has been released. Sonoma County’s land use planning and development agency released the report, which calls for about 1,000 housing units — including 283 affordable units — to go along with 940 on-site jobs and a resident population of 2,400. Bradley Dunn, policy manager for Permit Sonoma, tells the Press Democrat that the project would have less impacts on “wildlife, fire evacuation, and water,” and will provide more housing while protecting open space. Opponents to the plan say there are not enough affordable units in the proposed plan, as well as too many overall units for the site. The state of California owns the land but is allowing the county to help guide redevelopment.
