California is looking to boost access to mental health services for kids and young adults.  Governor Gavin Newsom unveiled the nearly five-billion dollar overhaul of the state’s mental health system Thursday at McLane High School in Fresno.

“To focus on universal screening and support and services,” said Governor Newsom. “For all of our children in the state of California from the age of 0 to 25.”

Newsom says California is taking urgent action to address the mental health crisis plaguing the state’s youth.  The four-point-seven billion investment will increase coverage options and public awareness so children and youth are routinely screened, supported and served.  The money will help create new virtual platforms and mental health workforce, adding 40-thousand new mental health professionals in the state.
