California is stepping up to pay overdue utility bills for struggling families. Nearly $650-million will go to help almost one-and-a-half million homes with balances accrued from March of 2020 through the end of last year. Governor Gavin Newsom says it’s the state’s latest commitment to help as the cost of living increases. About 33 utility companies applied for the funds and will credit accounts within 60 days of receiving the money.
