An ex-Rohnert Park police officer is expected to be arraigned on new federal charges today. Joseph Huffaker is accused of extorting cash and drugs from drivers he stopped for traffic violations along Highway 101, near the Sonoma-Mendocino County border. On December 13th, a grand jury indicted Huffaker on new charges, including impersonating a federal officer, falsifying records and aiding and abetting. Last year, he was indicted on the federal charges of conspiracy to commit extortion and extortion under color of law. Huffaker was a Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety officer from 2012 to 2019. He is facing up to 60 years behind bars if convicted as charged.
