Hillside on Cooper Drive 3-12-23 (Santa Rosa Fire Department)

Crews are working to strengthen an unstable hillside that’s been slowly sliding toward homes in Santa Rosa. The six homes are along Cooper Drive, just east of the Sonoma County Fairgrounds. Earlier this week, heavy machinery like backhoes and bulldozers were brought in to remove the unstable soil. City engineers have been watching the 40-foot piece of land since it started sliding after heavy rain in January. Two homes were red-tagged on March 10th. The day before, mud took down wooden fences and crept just a few feet away from one house.
