A Santa Rosa man convicted of murder is getting the maximum sentence available. Lloban Martinez-Soto was sentenced to 40 years to life in prison for the second-degree murder of his girlfriend’s ex-boyfriend with a gun in January of 2021. Judge Laura Passaglia, who handed out the sentence, said to Martinez-Soto “I hope that you spend the rest of your time in this world thinking about how you’ve affected other people.” Martinez-Soto killed Jesus Mendez Jr. out of jealously in Petaluma and was later pursued by police into a home in Sonoma. After a seven hour standoff, Martinez-Soto was arrested after being forced from the home with chemical agents.
