PG&E: Please Call 811 Before Digging

PG&E is reminding contractors and homeowners to call 811 before they dig. In 2022, there were 79 instances where dig ins hit PG&E lines in Sonoma County. Thirty-eight of those were in Santa Rosa, the only town or city along the North Coast that hasn’t seen a reduction in incidents. Spokesperson Megan McFarland says you should call 811 two days before any digging project to ask PG&E to mark their lines.
“Utility workers come out to your home at no cost. They mark the location of the underground lines,” said McFarland. “So that way when you start your project, whether that’s installing a new fence or digging for a new tree, it ensures that those lines are marked so that you don’t hit them when you start your project.”
Also, if you hit a PG&E line or another utility line, the cost is on you to fix it811 which averages at about $35-hundred dollars. Again, please call 811 before digging.
