Immigration Advocates Want Sonoma County Sheriff to Stop Working with ICE

Immigrant advocates are calling on Sonoma County Sheriff Eddie Engram to cease all cooperation with ICE. Protesters spoke out during a county supervisors meeting Tuesday night, asking the sheriff to stop notifying federal officials when undocumented immigrants are released from jail. Newly released data shows the number of cases where the sheriff’s office alerted federal authorities of an undocumented immigrant inmate’s release rose 64-percent last year over 2021.  The sheriff’s office says it only notifies ICE of an immigrant’s release from jail in cases of serious, violent offenders.
