A famed outdoorsman and former Piner High School coach has passed away. Press Democrat reports that Billy Gianquinto died last Thursday after a lengthy illness at the age of 78. Gianquinto did many things in life, including serving as a high school football coach for Piner High School from 1975 to 1985. He was inducted into the Piner High Hall of Fame in 2015. Gianquinto was also a longtime college basketball ref, logging over 900 NCAA Division 1 games, including four NCAA tournament games, over five decades. He was also an avid outdoorsman and hunter, known as a world-class duck caller. Gianquinto even hosted numerous outdoor shows, including “Ducks with Billy and Buck” that starred himself and his black Labrador “Buck.” He was also a contributor to KSRO and friend of the station. He will be missed.
