Sebastopol is looking for a new garbage collector. This week, the city council has decided to put its garbage contract out to bid, a process that could last up to 18 months. This comes after negotiations with Recology Sonoma Marin have stalled over a proposed rate increase which would’ve seen a rate increase of 30-percent for the first year and 50-percent over the following four years. Recology has said they are losing a million dollars a year in Sebastopol, a claim the city can’t confirm. R3 Consulting Group has been picked to manage the bidding process.
