Social Advocates for Youth Filing for Bankruptcy

Social Advocates for Youth, a 53-year-old nonprofit based in Santa Rosa, is shutting down. That’s what its supporters and employees tell the Press Democrat. The nonprofit laid off nearly all of its remaining staff on Monday and reportedly intends to file for bankruptcy today. The organization, which also goes by SAY, declared itself to be in a financial crisis in the first week of January. SAY had been offering emergency and transitional housing for struggling teens and young adults. About 40 people who are impacted by the closure are being placed with other programs.
