Santa Rosa Agrees to Pay $2.75-Million Settlement to Road Contractor

Santa Rosa will pay two-point-seven-five-million-dollars to settle its part in a contract dispute with a Bay Area-based road contractor. The company, Bay Cities Paving and Grading, was first hired in May of 2015, to work on the second phase of a major overhaul of Stony Point Road. Paving work was supposed to take a little more than a year to complete, but took three years because of design issues and other factors. The company then sued Santa Rosa in the fall of 2019, claiming there was a breach of contract because of the delays. It claimed the city owed six-point-three-million-dollars for the extra work. In addition to Santa Rosa paying Bay Cities Paving and Grading two-point-seven-five-million-dollars, the design firm hired by the city, GHD, will pay the company three-point-seven-five-million-dollars.
