Victim of Santa Rosa’s First Homicide of the Year Identified

A 20-year-old Windsor man has been identified as the victim of a fatal shooting last week in downtown Santa Rosa. On the night May 13th, Bryan Mendez came out of an apartment on the 700 block of Slater Street as a 21-year-old woman and her acquaintance, Diego Kona Kekahuna, started to argue. Kekahuna then shot Mendez multiple times in the chest which led to his death. Kekahuna fled the scene but not before hiding the gun in a parked truck’s wheel well. Police later found the firearm. Kekahuna was arrested for murder the following morning at a relative’s home in Elk Grove.
